Before painting, prime the surface with a latex primer made specifically for masonry. Paint brick with a 1-inch-nap roller or paint concrete with a 3/8-inch-nap roller. Choose 100% acrylic latex paint. When the paint is dry, touch up as needed with a brush.
It looks nice but I am so sad you all covered all the original trim when it looked like all it needed was a sanding and restain 🙁 Jamie February 25, 2015

We definitely took some short cuts when we first painted our house. Some rooms need to be redone now. It was like mess up a few rooms before we found out what really worked for us. LoveCompassionateLee February 25, 2015
Good contracts include descriptions of prep work and repairs; paint specs by brand name, type, color and product number (check Consumer Reports’ paint ratings; in its tests, some relatively inexpensive paints performed better than more expensive ones and cost $10 to $20 less per gallon); number of coats; and a full description of the work, including frequently omitted items such as cabinet interiors and shutters.

Older homes often have surfaces that newer homes don’t. Plaster walls, exposed brick, wood paneling and exterior architectural blocks are common in older homes. Using the right paint and tools on these surfaces (plus the right paint and tools for the room itself) is important to ensure the longevity of the project.

Interior paints come in five different finishes: flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss. High-gloss paints cost more, but are great for kitchens and bathrooms and are easier to clean. Flat or eggshell sheens are best for bedrooms, halls, and living rooms and hide flaws better than glossier paints.

We provide free estimates to anyone in the Boise area that requests one. A lot of people ask is we can provide an online estimate. Unfortunately, not accurately. we need to see your property in person. Knowing the square footage is useful but we need to see the layout of your home. How many floors are there, how high are the ceilings, how many walls are there, is there a basement, etc. Whether it’s interior or exterior painting, our professional painters need to actually see your property in order to give you an accurate painting cost. Contact our Boise house painters to get your free estimate!

Awesome post! I just wanted to add a couple tips about cleaning brushes that might be helpful. If you’re painting and are coming back for second coats later the same day, you can put your brush in a ziplock bag to keep it from drying out while you’re taking a break. When cleaning your brushes, use Murphy Oil Soap, it really helps to get the paint off and is eco friendly. You can even soak brushes in it and clean them later on if you’re a giant procrastinator like I am 🙂 I love following your progress with this house and am so stoked to see the finished product! Cheers and have a great day! Alexandra February 25, 2015 Jill @ Champagne for Everyday February 25, 2015
