When hiring an interior painter, do your research, ask plenty of questions, and get at least three quotes from contractors with a good reputation. Getting Interior Painting Quotes Research painting contractors near you, or ask friends, family, and neighbors for references. Read reviews and check out their previous work on HomeGuide, Google, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Contact at least three professionals for price quotes.Always get painting estimates in-person, and be skeptical of low bids. Verify their licensing, insurance, and experience. Never pay cash and figure out a reasonable payment plan upfront. Get a detailed contract in writing, including prep work and cleanup. Remember, the lowest bid is not always the best value since they might use cheap materials or unskilled labor. Questions To Ask Interior Painters How long have you been painting? Is your license and insurance up to date? Will you be using subcontractors? How many painting jobs have you completed in the last year? Can I have a list of references with contact information? What paints do you recommend? If you get paint on the furniture, are you liable? Do you offer a warranty or guarantee your work? Pray, Richard. “2019 National Construction Estimator.” 2019. PDF file. “Provided base coat for a never-painted large, garage, two coats of paint, power wahed walls and garage floor, and painted the floor of the garage. Excellent. Garage looked like new. Also completed some trim work that had never been done. Entire job was completed on time and at exact cost. Peter Smith supervises the work himself. He stands by his work. If any touch up is needed, he is there. I highly recommend him. Five years ago, Peter Smith painted the exterior of my house (4,000 square feet). He just came back to do some touch-up work. His charge for the touch-up work was reasonable and it will postpone the need for another house painting for at least 2 more years. To me, that is a great job!!”

I’ve been painting homes for over 15 years and I think you’ve nailed it: PREPPING. Most DIY’ers and home owners have little to no knowledge about the amount of time and cost it takes to prepare a project prior to painting. Your Article did a Great job in explaining some of the procedures that are necessary for a truly professional paint job. All to often the prepping is weak or non existing. As you pointed out, covering badly stained walls or ceilings with a coat of Kiln is probably not enough. Just wondering how many hours were spent in the prepping of your project? Great details and information. House Painting NY April 07, 2021
Similar to adding ceilings, painting the trim makes for easier touch-ups and straighter lines where walls and trim meet. Painting the trim also allows for a full seal of any gaps or cracks that exist.
This typically falls in the winter months of November-February each year when painting companies are less busy. Colder weather means fewer exterior painting jobs available for painters which results in more competitive price quotes for interior work.
First, we worked to remove all wallpaper throughout the house. There was a wallpaper border in a couple rooms, so it wasn’t too big of a deal taking it off. I basically scored the paper, wet it, then scraped it off. We did a more in-depth post last year. The main thing to keep in mind when removing wallpaper is to score well, then soak soak soak. The longer you let the paper soak up the removal spray or water, the easier it will peel off! Don’t paint over the wallpaper. Like most short cuts in home repair, it will lead to more problems down the road. Which I ran into in this house. In the dining room, I was removing the wallpaper when I realized somebody had previously painted over wallpaper. In the entire room! Which leads me to the second thing we did.
Looking to add a little pop into your home? Why not consider an accent wall? Whether adding it to a bedroom or a living area, an accent wall can give your home a little character and liven up any space. Even if you want to keep your home more neutral, you can still...
There are surfaces that require extensive prep work. For instance, if there is excessive mold or severe peeling, you may need to designate a few extra days to remedy the situation. Therefore, it will be great to talk with an experienced painter to fix extensive issues before you can get started.
Another great tutorial. You guys really put out some great and helpful posts. I was especially happy to see that you kept the popcorn ceiling! I feel like there is so much pressure to get rid of your popcorn ceiling if you have it, but it is so expensive especially if you have asbestos. It is really such a minor thing I don’t think it should get as much flak as it does. Besides, I am convinced if I wait long enough, the popcorn ceilings will make a comeback;)
