While exterior paints cost more, it costs a bit more to paint a home interior versus the exterior. This cost difference is due to the complexity of the different rooms and the number of different spaces that need painting versus a consistent exterior wall. Plus, interiors usually have to be painted by hand or by roller, which is more labor intensive. Exterior paint can be sprayed. It costs approximately $8,700 to paint a home interior and about $5,500 a home exterior. .

• One room or the whole house? Applying one coat in one room is a reasonable DIY Saturday project (especially if you have help and beer). Multiply the time spent moving furniture, prepping walls and sanding old trim by the number of rooms in the house, and you might want to hire real help. It's the same outside. You can probably tackle one shady garage wall that needs a little scraping and sanding plus a coat of paint, but covering all surfaces of the house is usually best left to a pro.
The key to any painting task is preparation. Our painting contractors can help you choose the best paints and colors to use. We can also repair and prepare every surface to be painted. With our assistance at these critical stages, you will achieve the best results.
“I highly recommend A Able Painting. They were very professional from the estimator who came to my home, to the associates on the phone and the actual painters. They all did a great job. My house looks great!”

Now, in the likely case that two coats are needed, you’d take the number of gallons and multiply by 1.7 for the second coat. This is the industry standard for second coat coverage, which normally takes 30% less material than the first coat.

Stucco preparation typically involves cleaning the surface, patching pits, cracks, and chips with stucco patching compound, and removing any loose paint.
Average-sized townhouses cost between $4,813 and $13,750 to paint. A townhouse may have two or three floors and often sports a rather narrow width compared to traditional single-family homes. Painting the exterior of a two-story or three-story structure usually costs more because it takes extra effort to reach the top floors. Still, one of the perks of living in a townhouse is that the exterior only includes the front and the back since the sides are shared walls with other townhouses. Shared walls may offset the added labor cost required to paint the upper stories.
Not many people know this but adding ceilings to a job actually makes painting the walls slightly easier. Primarily, this has to do with those tricky paint lines in the corners of rooms.
Awesome post! I just wanted to add a couple tips about cleaning brushes that might be helpful. If you’re painting and are coming back for second coats later the same day, you can put your brush in a ziplock bag to keep it from drying out while you’re taking a break. When cleaning your brushes, use Murphy Oil Soap, it really helps to get the paint off and is eco friendly. You can even soak brushes in it and clean them later on if you’re a giant procrastinator like I am 🙂 I love following your progress with this house and am so stoked to see the finished product! Cheers and have a great day! Alexandra February 25, 2015 Jill @ Champagne for Everyday February 25, 2015
