Hey, folks. It’s Josh. I’ve been super busy these past couple of months working on our HFHS project house. As we mentioned in our last update, the house is coming along, and we can’t wait to share more with you soon. We’ve learned a LOT while working on this project! One task we recently completed was painting all of the interior. A lot more goes into painting than you might guess, so I thought it would be fun to share a thorough breakdown of everything we encountered and learned as we painted this house. If you have any big painting projects in your future, I highly recommend you check out some of these tips and lessons we learned so hopefully your project goes smoothly.

The average cost to paint a 10x10 room is $300 to $700, depending on if you include the ceiling, doors, and trim. It takes two gallons of paint to apply two coats to a 10x10 room.
You should also look at the weather for a few days before you begin to paint because if it rains before your painting day, you need to give your siding several days to dry out before painting. The same applies after you paint- you want to make sure that there will be no rain after painting job since the paint has to be given time to cure properly.

It’s just about impossible to keep your floors free of paint drops. But a good canvas or cotton drop cloth will do a better job than plastic sheets. Paint drops stay wet after they fall on plastic and you can track a single drop all around your house. Cloth drop sheets also stay in place better, they aren’t as slippery as plastic and they are safer for ladders.

I don't mind painting, but house painting contractors have so much experience that they can have a crew in and out of your house in a short period of time. When painting trim adjoining siding, use painter’s tape to mask the siding. Remove the tape as soon as the paint sets-up.
After you’ve decided how you’re going to staff your business, it’s time to stock up on supplies. You’ll need brushes, rollers, painter’s tape, ladders, sanders, caulking tools, rags, cloths to avoid drips and more. You’ll obviously need to buy paint too.

This company began by painting the side of our house when they were supposed to be painting the walls inside of our screened patio. we never showed them the side of our house -- never discussed it yet they blamed this mistake on us. They then painted over the holes where the screws to a hurricane shutters go. Next they painted the ceiling of our patio green instead of white and got paint on the pool patio screens. This company promised to paint our driveway and garage floor, even after being asked about proper preparation, they assured us they knew what they were doing and we now cannot use our driveway or a garage floor without pulling the paint up with our tires. I do not recommend them!

Plan to use painter’s tape when you want to maintain a straight edge between colors of paint to avoid peeling-away the painted finish when you remove the tape. Be sure to remove both painter’s tape and masking tape as soon as the final finish is dry.
